The Axarquia is a great place to get out and about, and where better than in the Sierras Almijaras. Finding your way around can be a bit tricky, as guide books often give vague descriptions such as “turn left at the rock with the lizard on it”. Walking World have devised a system of using a combination of walk descriptions and photographs taken at points where decisions need to be taken. There are some for the Axarquia at http://www.walkingworld.com. We are currently working on more routes which you can order and can pay for on line using Paypal. All routes have been walked and plotted with a GPS, there is an accompanying map and instructions with photos. The authors are veteran walkers of Kilimanjaro and the Highlands of Scotland, and have been walking in the Axarquia for over 20 years!
OTHER ACTIVITIES
There are lots of activities – go quad biking or horse riding in the mountains. There are a number of walking routes which have been put together by the owners of the house copies of which are in the information packs in the house, and also accessible from www.walkingworld.com. We can provide bespoke maps and routes in addition to the ones available for download, and also have the published versions available in Spanish.
Horse riding - There are a number of stables locally. All have beautiful horses and experienced guides. Please ask for details.

WEATHER
The weather in Cómpeta is very temperate with hot summers and mild winters, but can often (these days) rain or snow in the winter. In our 25 years experience of Cómpeta, we have found the weather patterns to be changing.
DAYS OUT:
To Veléz Málaga - Catch the bus to Torre del Mar and the tram to the beautiful city of Veléz Málaga. The tram stops at the Eroski shopping complex, so plenty of opportunities for shopping.
To Málaga - Drive to Torre del Mar and park. Catch the bus to Málaga and enjoy the many visitor attractions. Parking is difficult, so easier to catch the bus which leave Torre del Mar very frequently. Alternatively catch the bus to Torre del Mar and change. Be aware that the drop off point by Alsina Graells is not the same as the pick up point for the bus to Málaga. Ask at the bus station for directions. ¿Dónde cogemos el autobus para Málaga?
To Nerja - by bus - the bus does not go down the Torrox road, so you have to change at Torre del Mar and take the Málaga bus in the opposite direction! The caves are well worth a visit, and we can highly recommend El Puente restaurant at the entrance to Nerja.
MARKETS
See the Grapevine magazine for details of all markets - Nerja is a particularly good one! The market in Cómpeta is on Saturday morning so if you have a car, do not park in the car park opposite Como Como supermarket on a Friday night!
